Clean eating, Day 4

Friday
Day 4-
Breakfast-- egg white, soy sausage, whole grain toast, coffee
Lunch-Shakeology, skim milk
Dinner-salmon, a BUNCH of asparagus, multi-grain bread
Other- a two bite brownie.
My husband was cooking dinner and he came home with the most beautiful cut of wild salmon and fresh asparagus.  He also came home with the exact same cake I bought for the "soccer dinner" and a bunch of 2 bite brownies as a treat. Ugh. I was able to ignore the pumpkin cake but I could not resist having one of the brownies.  It was delicious.   At least it was small!


By the way, I am down 1.5 pounds.  Yea!

Breakfast- i slice of 5 grain toast, egg whites, avocado, soy sausage, coffee
lunch- 2 slices of low sodium turkey, some tortilla chips with hummus
snack- a GIANT apple
dinner- turkey ham, peas and carrots, boiled potatoes w/ lots of pepper (no butter), multi grain bread, green tea


Comments- I missed Shakeology today!  Can't let that happen tomorrow.

Your Palate or you LIFE!!

Sorry for the delay in posting! I had a MAJOR virus that shut down my computer but I am back in action!  Quick props to Hitman 3.5 for fixing  the problem and to Pat Schrader who recommended it to me when other anti- viral programs did not work.  THANK YOU!

Lisa's Accountability
I promised to post my daily intake for 30 days and it is now day 3.  Here are the first 2 days:
Day 1
Breakfast-egg whites salsa, avocado in  a whole grain tortilla, coffee
snack-Shakeology, skim milk 
Lunch-low sodium turkey, lettuce tomato, avocado, hummus in whole grain tortilla, a few wheat thins
Dinner-same as lunch only, no hummus, just Newman's Own sesame ginger dressing (low fat version)  Dinner was definitely on the run!
Other- 1/2 cup of Shakeology (was at an evening meeting giving out samples, so I had one myself!)
Day 2
Breakfast- egg whites, avocado, soy sausage on 5 grain toast, coffee
Lunch- wild mushroom and cauliflower soup, slice of  still warm 5 grain bread
Dinner- Shakeology, skim milk 
Other--chai tea with a little honey

The last couple days have been super hectic and dinner has been a little weird.  Heres to hoping things settle a bit, but  with 3  kids active in sports and the end of the quarter looming, I am afraid there will be a LOT of homework help happening!

Speaking of meetings ...


Last week the  high school Soccer Booster Club hosted their annual spaghetti dinner and silent auction.  I was asked if I would donate a BeachBody product to be auctioned off.  Being a die hard soccer fan, I gave a complete "Rockin' Body" program by Shaun T., including meal planner.  While this may not be his most well known program, it is super effective and well put together.  It sells for $60.00 retail.  Add shipping,handling and tax, and  it totals out at about $70.00. (A great  deal, by the way!) I was also asked to bring a dessert.  I brought a store bought pumpkin cheesecake in a plastic container.  It cost me $7.00.  When I arrived, one of the dinner leaders saw the dessert and said it was too good to feed for dessert.  They would put it in the dessert auction!  
Well, okay then.  
The dinner was very well run and the kids did a great job of serving.  A vegetarian option was available and everyone got a decent looking salad, so I was happy enough. 
  
So I went to look at the various things in the auction and noticed there was only ONE bid on the workout.  For $15.00.  I checked out  some of the other offerings and the biggest hits were the food baskets, all with different themes:  chocolate, coffee, Italian food etc.   Those were going between 60-80 bucks!   When the Dessert Auction rolled around, my $7.00 cake from the grocery store sold for $15.00. The same price as the $70.00 workout program.   Even a sports enthusiast crowd chooses

This is a perfect example of the way many people think about their health.  They don't!  Here is a program that could change your health, show you how to eat better AND comes with free coaching.  Even at full price, it is cheaper than a month at the Y.

There are so many people out in the world that are in poor health and desperate to get their health back.  The solution is right here! The best programs, the best nutritionals and free coaching!  Don't be distracted by the white flour and sugar processed concoctions.  It may taste good and make you feel happy for a minute, but what then? If you want to be healthy, if  you want to feel strong,  Make the Decision  to Change. Nothing ever tastes as good as feeling thin and healthy feels.  Choose wisely.

Hello Someday!!

Today is that "Someday" that you spoke about somewhere before... Here it is! What will you do today, that you promised you would do "Someday"?

How often have you said, "I need to do that someday"?  Well, how about making the decision to finally take action today? Right now! What is the worst thing that could happen?  You don't reach your goal?  Isn't that where you are already?  Today is the perfect day to step out of the bleachers and get in the game.

 I will start things off by putting MY someday out there. I have been watching some of my buddies as they prepare for some bikini contests and they look awesome.  While I have no desire to compete, I do like the idea of looking like I could!  Lol!  I have pretty good intake, but when I am really careful about what I eat, I get great results.   So starting NOW, I am  tightening up my eating and going as clean as possible for the next 30 days.  To keep myself on track and be accountable to my readers, I  will post my intake here daily.


Yes, I know Halloween is on Sunday.  Yes, I know we are right on top of the holiday season. SO WHAT?  Will I be prefect every day?  Probably not.  Will it cause me to give up?  Absolutely not!! After all, I have YOU to keep me accountable! :)   I can't tell you how many times I have heard, "I want to change, but I can't start this week because I have a wedding/birthday party/vacation/dinner party I have to attend."   Look, there will always be stuff happening around us.  If we wait for the "perfect" time to do something different,  nothing ever happens and Someday never arrives.  This is not just true for your nutrition, but EVERYTHING in your life.  So why wait! Take the plunge and go after your Someday, today!

Yesterday's intake is my baseline. This was before I decided to tighten things up!!

Breakfast-scrambled egg whites, salsa, in a multi-grain tortilla, coffee
Lunch- wild mushroom and cauliflower soup, 5 grain bread, spoonful of vanilla icing (Can you tell I was working at the bakery?  Dumb.)
Late p.m. snack- Chocolate Shakeology, tsp. peanut butter, milk, ice
Dinner- whole wheat pasta, turkey kielbasa, tea 
Other-a "chunky"- Tom brought one home when he heard I was feeling a little stressed.

As you can see, my intake was far from perfect.  Thank goodness I had the Shakeology as there was a serious shortage of veggies happening!  Among many other things, Shakeology has about 5 servings of vegetables packed into one yummy shake.  It is the perfect nutritional cauking; it fills in all the cracks!

I will post each day's intake the next morning.  So far, so good, though!

Why did I become a coach? Why should you?

  Most people know Beachbody has the most effective and high quality fitness programs on the market and is the fastest growing home based fitness company in the country. -would allow us to live in any town we wanted
-work from home OR
-allow us to be home when the kids got home- no babysitters or latch key kids!
-flexible hours so we can volunteer at the schools and attend all sporting events.

Don't Like the Economy? Stop eating junk!!

(Okay, this one might make some people uncomfortable. I will post the disclaimers in the comments section.)


If there is one thing in the world that gets me heated up, it is negative talk.  I hate blaming others for their predicament even more!  Well, today I found myself in such a conversation and it set me on edge.   Someone who I love and respect was complaining about the economy and scapegoating the whole problem on a very insignificant aspect of our national budget.  I usually keep my politics to myself, but  this was too much for me let slide.  This got me thinking about  the REAL, undisputed,  number one drag on the economy.  Health care!!  Now I know this is an issue that can cause both sides of the aisle to unleash the dogs, but let's not go there.  No matter what our political bent is, we all want to see the cost of being healthy and living our lives to not bankrupt us. We want healthcare to be less of a burden on our  family, our children and our country.  So what can we do besides moan about it?  


There is a new statistic that 75% of Americans will be overweight by 2020!  That is terrifying!   There is no disputing the parade of ailments that crop up with the growing pounds. As a country,  we are literally crumbling our economy under our own weight!   I for one, want to DO something about this!    As a Beachbody  coach, it is my unrelenting passion to help those who are ready to jump off this cycle and take their personal health and their country's health seriously.   There are those that do and those that prefer to complain about it.  So where do you fall?  


I can already hear it,"Yeah, yeah, Lisa. That is nice and all, but you don't know about me.My situation is unique and I have too much other important stuff to deal with."
Honestly, what is more important


1) Convenience?.- Is it that convenient to feel exhausted every day because you are not getting the nutrition you need?  
2) Time?- "I am sooooo busy" is a popular one. So am I.  So is everyone!  If the President can find 40 minutes to workout a day, anyone can.  Love him or hate him, he is one busy guy.  I am betting he is busier than you.  Tape a couple of your favorite shows and use that time to do something good for yourself.
3) Taste preferences?  "I just don't like vegetables, water,  fill in the blank..." Do you like the idea of seeing your children grow up?  How about grandchildren?  Look. There are so many different options to get proper nutrition nowadays that it is not difficult to find something that is tolerable for even the pickiest eater.  I personally drink Shakeology so my veggies taste like chocolate.  
4) Not motivated?-Are you motivated to feel uncomfortable with how you look, feel and they way people treat you when they only see your exterior and not who you really are as a person? For the rest of your life? When you choose inaction, you are choosing poor health.  Read my earlier blog about getting motivated for  tips on this.
5) Money?-"It costs less to eat crappy food than healthy food" Sure, sometimes.  An apple is cheaper than a bag of chips, though.  Oatmeal with frozen blueberries is cheaper than an Egg McMuffin.  Red beans and brown rice with salsa is better and cheaper than any fast food meal.  There is nothing better (or easier!) than homemade soup.  Just throw in whatever you have and let it simmer for an hour.  Water is free and the price soda is astronomical, especially when you consider what it does to your teeth and insides over time.  Want to talk about expensive?  What about  a lifetime of meds for diabetes, cholesterol, acid reflux?  It is incredible how these terrible diseases are managed so much easier when you give your body the fuel it needs.   I have personally worked with customers who have lowered and even eliminated medication when they got off the couch and tightened up their intake. You can't put a price on the confidence they feel. 


We are at a cross roads, as a country. Are we going to pretend this is not a problem and go about our business or take a stand?  It drive me crazy to see Americans "settle" for poor health.  It does not have to be this way! I don't want to see our kids get sick and die young because they were never taught how to eat properly.  I want this country to lead the world with a citizenship of strong, healthy people who are not home sick (again!) or on disability due to a lifetime of poor dietary choices.  Our country deserves better! YOU deserve better. Together, we CAN do better!

It's my health, and I want it NOW!

Lets face it.  We all want great results NOW!  We are used to getting what we want with a click of a mouse or remote control.  We call a delivery place, tell them what we want, and Poof! It arrives at our house, exactly as we ordered, within 30 minutes.  Living in a modern world sure has its perks. 


This is just not the case when it comes to your health.   There is no magic pill "sleep away the fat" option.  It takes effort.  and time. and commitment. The thing is, even though you may not see a change from a single workout or good nutritional choice, there is change happening!    


I can't tell you how many emails I have received from people who are discouraged because they do not look ripped after 10-14 days. They tell me that their clothes are fitting differently and they are feeling stronger and yet, they are discouraged and ready to quit.  At that point, it is time for a reality check.  How long did it take to gain all the unwanted pounds?  6 months? A couple years?  Maybe it has been a lifetime of sedentary living combined with convenience food!  This is not going to reverse itself completely overnight, but it will in time.  You have to trust it.  It truly makes me sad when I see people making solid progress, but then quit before they reach their goal because they are impatient.  Don't fall into this trap!  It is called P90X, not P10X!   If you want long term success, you must think beyond today.   Time is your friend.  How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.  Don't give up when you have only gotten through half the trunk! Lol!  


If you’re someone that’s discouraged because you haven’t gotten the results you want after just a short period of time, then please understand that it takes a long time to achieve great success! Keep committing to yourself and your hard work WILL pay off!

Not feeling Motivated?

When people contact me, can you guess what the number one topic is? Not exercise, not nutrition, not even Shakeology, but  motivation! Lets face it, you can have the best, most effective workouts in the world combined with a world class nutrition program, but if you are not willing to stick with them, they are not worth a thing.  So what can you do to ensure you stick with it?


First, find a workout program that appeals to you. This is not a cookie cutter world and everyone is different. Does P90X seem to intimidating? Do something else!! The number of workout programs out in the world is staggering. In fact,there are well over 100 Beachbody workouts available, alone, so understand you can find a routine with a style and intensity that works for you.  Even a mediocre routine done daily is better than the ultimate workout sitting on a shelf.  Find something that is fun for YOU and you will come back and do it again and again.  


Now that you have found your perfect workout, what do you do to overcome those days when you just don't feel like moving around? The best thing you can do is to remember your "WHY". Your why has to be more than just  "I want to look better in my jeans".  It has to be POWERFUL.  More powerful than the immediate gratification of sitting around. Are you working out because you do not want the high blood pressure and diabetes that runs in your family? Do you want to eliminate those expensive medications with those unpleasant side effects? Maybe it is because you have kids and you want around to see them get married and have children of  their own. Perhaps you want to be a better role model to your family so they grow up with a healthier attitude towards food and fitness. Do you just want to stop feeling tired, weak and out of sorts? Find the REAL reason you want to be healthier.  If it does not make you cry when you say it out loud, it is not powerful enough to get you past those lazy moments.  Remember the feeling when you decided, "Enough, already! I deserve better"  Experience it. Don't let go of it. 


Now imagine yourself when you have reached the goal you are striving for. Think about that feeling of confidence as you go about your business, energized, looking good and feeling GREAT. See in your mind how people look at you differently and go to you for fitness advice. A whole different world opens up when you are healthy and fit. More energy, more strength, more confidence! It truly permeates every aspect of your life.

If that is not enough, get yourself an accountability partner. Find someone who is like-minded and willing to touch base with you to share how things are going every day . You will be amazed at how much that helps keep you on track. I use WOWY, the team Beachbody virtual gym to help with that. When I accept an invitation to meet someone to workout, I am WAY less inclined to blow off a workout.   Want the 
ULTIMATE accountability?  Be a coach!! People look to you to lead them by example.  I can tell you it sure helps me stay on my game!  Coaching is not just for the super fit, it is for anyone who wants to stay on track and help others do the same.  I challenge you to really consider making a commitment to improving the health of both yourself AND your community. Together we are better.
